Change Salone Internship Program
The Change Salone Internship Program will ensure that young Sierra Leoneans participate in the nation's development by sponsoring 3 month internships with Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Community Based Organizations (CBOs), private sector, and government ministries and agencies. Students will recieve a stipend to participate in the program and will also have a mentor for the duration of the three month internship period. Mentors will monitor student progress during the internship period, help student overcome obstacles, and also, serve as a resource towards the intern's professional development. All internships will focus on issues of social development prevalent in Sierra Leone. Students will attend a week long workshop/training program to prepare them for their internship. The workshop will include Sierra Visions' Brain Gain TR'SURE Training Program, tips on professionalism, CV/Resume Writing Tips, Internet Research 101, English Writing Essentials, Intro to Social Development , and more. A survey will be conducted prior to the workshop of NGOs and businesses to get a cross section of the skills expectations for prospective interns and the outcome of that survey will be included in the workshop.
Who is eligible?
Sierra Leonean citizens living in Sierra Leone and currently enrolled in secondary school or university between the ages of 17-27. Applicants must be either in form 5, 6, college or a recent graduate from either secondary school/college who graduated no more than 1 year prior to July 15th 2007. The internship is open to young women and men eager to participate in Salone's development. Students living in Freetown but orginially from the Northern, Southern, or Eastern parts of the country are encouraged to apply.Only one application entry per student and multiple entries will automatically be disqualified.

The Selection Process
A selection committee made up of six individuals will select applicants based on merit, potential, commitment to social development, ingenuity of proposed project and overall strength of application. ThinkBuildChange Salone believes in equal opportunity and shall not discriminate on the basis of gender, religion, age, or ethnic group affiliation. Friends and family of committee members are not eligible to apply. Selection committee will notify those applicants who show talent and promise for an oral interview with the committee.
The Internship Award
Each selected applicant will receive the Leones equivalent of $150; equally disbursed over the three month period. The award will be given to 10-12 interns from college/university/senior secondary school each year. However, it is within the discretion of the commitee to change the number of awards disbursed annually.
